Fundraising the 'MR. CHINATOWN' Music Video
Empowering my community: the MR. CHINATOWN Music Video
As the creative director and founder of Son of Paper music, I successfully designed and executed an award winning music video that pushed for social justice in the Asian American community. Our goal was to complete this high quality video within a year and stay within our $3,500 budget.
Skills Engaged:
Leveraged social media and email campaigns to raise over $3,000 on Kickstarter.
Facilitated the production process, including shooting, editing, and compensating actors.
Maintained flexibility and control of project throughout changing team and location dynamics
Communicated with stakeholders to give monthly updates on how, where and why their money was being spent
ACHIEVEMENTS:
The MR. CHINATOWN Music Video was screened at multiple Film Festivals.
It secured the top spot in the Music Video Category at the Washington DC International Film Festival
IMPACT BEYOND MUSIC:
What began as a rap song transformed into a community-led movement against Anti-Asian hate crimes and rhetoric.
Several non-profits and film festivals asked me to be their keynote speaker and show the video to their audiences
Through the MR. CHINATOWN VIDEO, we reshaped online discussions about film and music across platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram/meta.
